Unbeknownst to Emma, John’s past prepared him for his future. He thought he could run away from them, but one day they found him. One afternoon Emma invited John over for dinner. He had no idea he was being followed. They waited for the right moment and barged into the home, carrying guns and vengeance. Fear seized Emma and her mother as the intruders waved their guns.

John, poised with courage, glanced over at Emma and her mother. He exhaled and felt a surge of guilt pulsate within his veins, knowing he had brought his problems into their home. He then mustered up enough courage and approached the intruders, hoping to detour their attention away from Emma and her mother.

Suddenly without warning….
Something happened….
Bullets were fired….

Shortly afterwards, Pastor Green returned home to his family. His body trembled as he dropped to his knees. Blood was everywhere.
What appeared to be death was actually a new beginning of life. In the midst of all chaos, grace and mercy intervened.

blurb

The Last King, Book I by A. Yamina Collins is an 11-part serial novel. A modern-day fantasy romance about a young woman innocently caught in a war between two age-old nemesis: God, and immortal beings whose ancestors ate from the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden.

Twenty-eight year Emmy Hughes has never quite fit in—she’s six feet tall, dark-skinned, and daydreams of being Galadriel from Lord of the Rings. But when she is badly injured in a car accident that kills her mother, Emmy does not dream of fantastical worlds anymore—she just wants her shattered life to be normal again.

Unfortunately, normalcy is the last thing in store for her once she meets Lake George’s newest arrival, Dr. Gilead Knightly. Granted immortality from a line of people whose Great Ancestor marched into the Garden of Eden and ate from the Tree of Life, Gilead has been alive for centuries and has met everyone from Nubian kings to Napoleon.

But Gilead and his eccentric family are also hunted beings because God considers the Edenites’ possession of immortality to be theft. And for thousands of years He has dealt with their transgression by sending each of them a “Glitch” —an unsuspecting human meant to retrieve this stolen “property” of immortality and kill them off.

When Emmy discovers that she is Gilead’s Glitch, she is not only thrown into a world of immortals who eat bone marrow, panthers who read minds, and a family whose blood is made of pulsing gold, but she finds herself the target of Gilead’s vengeance: he must get rid of her before she gets rid of him.

Easier said than done. Because Glitches are not only an Edenite’s greatest threat—they’re also their greatest love.

Book Review from Black Pearls Magazine Online
The Last King by A.Yamina Collins, a Science Fiction Romance, is a marvelously layered story filled with drama, suspense and memorable characters. The author, a masterful storyteller, brings to life a story about a line of people who cannot die because their ancestors marched into the Garden of Eden and ate from the tree of life. God, however, considers this act, and the subsequent immortality that came with it, to be theft. God wants their immortality returned and he deals with their transgression by playing a cosmic sort of chess game with the Edenites!
The Last King is part fantasy, romance, religion and history. What an interesting mix for an 11 part series. This was my first time reading a serial novel and I have to say this one was excellent! I can’t wait to read the other chapters to this phenomenal storyline. I highly recommend this serial novel to the readers.

EXCERPT FROM THE LAST KING, EPISODE # 2
CHAPTER 8 – Her

Kill her, a voice in his head tells him.

Yes, of course, he responds. That’s what I have to do. And how should he do it? Should he follow her home when the lecture is over, come up behind her in her driveway, or wherever she lives, and snap her neck like a twig? Whatever he does, he needs to be cruel. He needs to teach her and the One who sent her a lesson. Yes, that’s it. He will do to her what his brother Micau did to his own Glitch: something so physically twisted that it would make the ears of any human who hears about it and finds her remains, shutter.

Slowly he starts to straighten up and just in time. The door to the auditorium swings open suddenly, and out it walks. He cannot make out her whole face because her hands are covering her mouth and nose, but he can see her big eyes, and the alarm in her face. Two other people are following it – following her, and making a commotion behind her.

“Hold your head back,” one of them is saying, trying to still the bleeding woman’s franticness.

But blood has already seeped onto her white dress, and Gilead can hear her saying, “Not again, not again,” as she rushes past him. Not again. So it’s happened before. Gilead thinks. Of course it has It happened the other day, while Gilead was standing outside the restaurant, didn’t it? She was somewhere around the vicinity that night, near the boardwalk, wasn’t she?

In a moment, the woman, looking a bit disoriented no, disappears into the bathroom and Gilead closes his eyes and bites his lower lip.

Now he knows why he missed the fine print on the flier, and why he had a desire to come to this lecture in the first place.

It’s Him.

Gilead curses under his breath; curses Him with everything he’s got.

Her? He thinks, in disgust. Against the greatness of me? That simple-looking thing?

It’s insulting.

Opening his eyes, he takes the opportunity to move toward the exit as a few more new comers enter the building. It’s all Gilead can do to appear as normal as possible—he stands up straight and forces himself not to clutch his stomach.

Outside, he takes in several quick breaths of air, and doubles over again.

Why should he fear her?

“I will break her,” he mutters to himself. “If I have to rip off her whole face, I will break her.”

Something about him saying this brings him a feeling of relief. He is clear-eyed and focused for a moment, even self-assured, for he knows that once he makes up his mind about reaching a goal, it’s as good as done.

He will kill her tonight, somehow.

But before he can contemplate how to execute his plans, he cups a hand over his mouth, rushes toward a nearby bush, and vomits onto the leaves and branches.

Q & A:

The best thing about writing this book?
That I stuck to it when I didn’t think that it was possible to finish.

Where did you get your idea for this story?
Even though I am a man, I love women sleuths. 1. Not enough attention is given to the small-town lawyers that are an integral part of society in rural area. 3. I am not an attorney, but I always wished that I had studied law. These are the main ideas that came to me.

What would you tell aspiring writers out there?
Find the main reason why you write, i.e. fame, fortune, or just for the love of creating something from nothing, and don’t let anyone discourage you. Hang around people that will encourage you to write. And, don’t forget to tell people that you are a writer. They will be impressed!

What is your favorite book?
The Book of Mormon

Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate?
Hot chocolate

about the author

headshot2

Patricia D. Eddy has been a writer all of her life. She used to sit at her parents’ kitchen counter at an Apple IIe typing out short stories. She even wrote a few on their old typewriter. But it wasn’t until NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) in 2011 that she ever came close to finishing a story she started.

Once that dam broke, the flood waters never receded. Patricia sits down to write every evening after dinner and quite often sees midnight come and go before she heads to bed. She doesn’t sleep much. But she wouldn’t have it any other way.

In her spare (HA!) time she runs, bikes, swims, yogas, pilates-es, reads, and is terribly addicted to Doctor Who and Sherlock. Apparently she has a thing for quirky British men.

Q & A:

The best thing about writing this book?
Being able to educate the public about Japanese culture in a subtle way while telling an exciting, entertaining story.

Where did you get your idea for this story?
I often travel to Japan and have met interesting people over the years with very unusual jobs, including: a teahouse Mama-san, Geishas and Maikos, a Buddhist monk, a master swordsman, a member of the Yakuza (underworld gang), celebrities, karate senseis, police officers, and export agents. They all have interesting lives and a few have remarkable beliefs, which helped to cultivate and grow my story idea.

What would you tell aspiring writers out there?
Never lose faith in the strength of your tale no matter how challenged or discouraged you might become.

What is your favorite book?
I have many, but the one that will always stay with me is Shogun by James Clavell.

Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate?
Definitely ice cold chai tea.

I want to thank Kaylin McFarren for allowing me to promote her book on my blog. I hope this post has inspired you to go out and read Buried Threads!

Q & A:

The best thing about writing this book?
The excitement in creating the scenes, the drama, the thrills and the inspiration.

Where did you get your idea for this story?
I like to create tangled love stories with loads of drama that pulls a reader in to escape if only for a moment. When I write I always know it will be a love story gone wrong. It’s putting the characters together that brings life to it which is a challenge I’m up for every time.

What would you tell aspiring writers out there?
Don’t sign a contract with anyone even if you have a lawyer look at it. My advice is to try your hand at self publishing first. Get to know the business side of things by doing tons of research. Once you’ve been writing and research for a while. I would say a couple of years, then you’ll know what to do and what not to do. Every day is new and there is more to learn but at least you’ll have the basics down. To jump right into signing contracts with these publishing companies at the first sign of someone taking you on as a author could be career suicide.

Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate?
Sweet Tea

Excerpt-

The chill surrounded us. Even now, after six months, it shocked me. But Raven’s arms were tight and warm around me. When we emerged, the sun was kissing the horizon. I blinked against the brilliant orange light. We were standing on a small strip of sand next to the sea. Rose petals covered the beach and lanterns were arranged in a large circle, inside of which stood those we considered our family. Ami and Seònaid. Moire and Ian. Marcas and Una. Even Faolan was there. I turned towards Raven with questions in my eyes.

Color flooded his dusky, chiseled cheeks and the gentle breezes ruffled his black hair. He had let it grow these past months and it nearly brushed his shoulders now. “I wanted to do something for you, allera. Something special to mark this day. Our customs say that Ostara, the spring equinox, marks the day that light wins over the darkness. You are my light, Ealasaid.”

“And you are mine,” I managed. The lump in my throat threatened to choke me. “There was no light for me before you. But you have already given me everything. I have no need of anything else.”

Raven smiled. “Perhaps I do. Ami and Seònaid’s handfasting was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. Second only to the moment of our mating when I felt our souls intertwine. I thought we could have our own handfasting. In front of our family. All of them.”

I looked around. Our Love surrounded us, pure and perfect. Ian’s arm was around Moire’s waist. Ami’s hand rested on Seònaid’s bottom and their heads were touching. Una was curled against Marcas. Faolan was the only one standing apart. He looked wistful, but not entirely unhappy.

“This is what you were doing today?” I accused.

“Finding roses this time of year was difficult. Ian and I had to travel to his home in the south. His gardens there are truly impressive. It is a long trip.” Raven grinned.

“I suppose I will have to forgive you then.”

Raven offered me his hand and led me inside the circle. We stood at the center. The couples formed three points of the compass with Faolan taking up the fourth. Moire and Ian spoke first, their voices combining in unison. “We ask the Fates to bless this union with the gifts from the four corners of the world. We represent the gifts of the north a firm foundation on which to build, a hope for a fertile mind and body, and a stable home where you may always return to each other’s arms.”

Marcas and Una spoke next. “We represent the gifts of the south the comfort of a loving home, the heat of the heart’s passion, and light in the darkest of times.”

Seònaid and Ami stepped forward. “We represent the gifts of the west a commitment as deep and a passion as all encompassing as the sea.”

Faolan’s raspy voice completed the ritual. “I give you the gifts of the east the union of the heart, mind, and body, fresh beginnings with the rising of each sun.”

The air around us stirred. I swept my gaze over the deep purple sky to where it touched the expansive sea. The water lapped softly at the sand. I inhaled deeply. The salty air filled my lungs. I had never felt so free so very loved and safe.

Ami stepped forward with a braided piece of silk. “Ealasaid, take Raven’s left hand in yours.” She laid her hand on ours, cool against our warmth. Her eyes met mine. “May I bind your hands?”

I nodded. As she tied a loose knot at our wrists, a sudden memory threatened me, but one look into Raven’s eyes and it vanished.

“Your hands are now joined, in front of your family, as witnessed by the Fates. Hold each other, caress each other, support each other, love each other. Your lives, your hearts, and your souls are joined in this life and the next. By the Fates and by the laws of this land may this be done.” Ami unwound the silk and handed it to Seònaid. “There is only one thing left to do.”

I looked over at her. What else could there be?

Raven dipped his hand into his pocket and brought forth two silver rings, one large and one small. “A symbol. Like our sigils. I had them made for us.”

He took the smaller ring and slid it onto my finger. It was warm. The engravings appeared to come alive for a brief second, glinting in the light of the surrounding lanterns. Raven extended his hand, offering me his ring. I had a sudden flash of memory: Raven offering me a grape the first morning I’d been free. Tears pricked at my eyes. With trembling fingers, I held his ring. My magic pulsed, heating the silver. What is happening? As the ring slid over Raven’s finger, I awakened my sight. Emerald wisps of air were flowing from my hand to his. His aura took on the slightest green tinge. It was almost like a halo around his body. The ring had a stronger aura, one all its own. Was there magic in the metal? I looked down at my hand. My ring had no such aura. When I looked back at his ring, the aura was gone.

“Ealasaid.” He brought me back with the gentle word. “The Fates smiled upon me the day they led me to you. They have blessed me every day since. I have seen you discover your magic, your voice, your strength, and even your very name. Each day with you is a gift-one I treasure.”

I cupped his cheek. “It is I who am blessed. I had nothing. You gave me the strength to discover who I was. It is because of you that I have a family. There is nothing more precious to me than this.”

For several long moments, all was silent. We were locked in a gentle embrace. Raven’s eyes shone with unshed tears. He dipped his head. His lips were soft, warm, and tasted of home. He was my home.

Book: American Warrior

Genre:
Thriller, Suspense, Literary, Action-Adventure

Publisher: JS Publishing
Format: ebook
Release Date:
11/18/2013

Summary:
The year is 1961. America has a new president, named John F. Kennedy, and a new era the newspapers are calling the Dawn of Camelot. But for ten-year-old Paul Brett, dealing with an abusive father and the immigrant gangs roaming his slum neighborhood of China Slough, America is only a small, dead-end place he is struggling to survive.

That is, until the night a mysterious stranger comes out of the darkness to his rescue, and initiates a journey–an unforgettable odyssey–beyond his wildest imagination.

From his unlikely beginnings in a brutal California migrant camp, into the darkest underbelly of a distant and unpopular war, to his final and, perhaps, most deadly struggle for survival inside the bowels of a near-medieval military prison, American Warrior follows this amazing journey of one young hero from boyhood to manhood, and from love lost, to his final and most incredible attempts to regain that love.

Only continue writing if there is no way you can stop. Writing simply to be a writer is wasting your time and your life.

Summary:
From Out of the Darkness — the bogeyman came . . .

Jordan Prescott is young, intelligent, and beautiful, albeit
a little naïve when it comes to men and life. Tragically she’s also no stranger
to heartbreak. Five years ago, her estranged, older sister Christi was found
brutally murdered and the man of Jordan’s dreams vanished.
Now, a shocking letter from her dead sister beckons Jordan
back home, where mysterious circumstances send her life spiraling out of
control ― straight into the path of a vicious killer with unfinished business.
Is the man who haunts Jordan’s dreams her destiny or a calculating,
cold-hearted murderer, or is there someone even closer who wants Jordan dead?
Jordan will risk it all, life and heart, as she struggles to
unravel the mystery of past deceptions that threaten her world today. Truths,
she’s still not certain her mind and heart want to learn. Through a labyrinth
of deceit, danger, and ultimate betrayals, Jordan quickly discovers the one
thing she’s not willing to risk or die for at the hands of a monster is the
very thing her sister fiercely fought and died for five long years ago.

This is a mystery and a romantic thriller that draws the reader in and shows them just how small the world can be when paths cross and betrayals abound.

Q & A:

The best thing about writing this book?
The best thing about writing this book was I was 2/3 into another mystery I’d started that was actually turning out to be a lot of work and From Out of the Darkness just came to me- title, characters names, storyline, villain- everything and I titled it this for many reasons first based on the characters and how when you face such bad things and darkness- it can only get better. It was also just after my dad had died and my writing got me through those dark days so it’s kinda a double meaning I felt. The best thing about writing it was the meaning of the entire storyline and getting through dark times

Where did you get your idea for this story?
I may have answered that above. It truly just came to me when writing another novel and I actually stopped the other and wrote this novel- 1200 pages on paper, 500 in book form and kinda kept the paper companies in biz with this one and a few others-lo

What would you tell aspiring writers out there?
Well, as I’m still one of those, I’d have to say believe in you, your writing and just write from the heart for yourself and if you love it, others may as well.
At some point, when your story is complete, you’ve got a copyright it is done and to stop the inner critic that is always saying I can fix this, change that and just let the story and characters go and move onto another great time and place and characters- be happy with all your hard work

What is your favorite book?
Vincent Van Gogh Diaries

Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate?
all- just tea in evening

Anything else that you would like to add?
I
‘d like to say thank you for taking your time, just to get through all of this. I read a ton, so I know it’s a lot of time and effort, but reading for fun is what makes books so great.

I’m also a poet, there’s a poem I created on my Amazon author page titled Words- because everybody in the world has started reading one word at a time. And words live on, even when the great ones have passed- we still get to enjoy their creative genius for centuries- and that makes words priceless
