If you enjoyed books like Helen Fielding’s Bridget Jones’s Diary, you may like Slapshot of Love. In it, a smart, witty and pretty (but not model pretty) Geri Halton finds herself on the reality TV dating show Slapshot of Love. Will handsome hockey star Ryan choose Geri out of the usual collection of beautiful women? Will Geri’s evil cousin Meagan, also a contestant on the show, destroy her before she gets a chance to find out? Reality TV has never been so real…or so hilarious.
Q & A:
What is the best thing about writing this book?
I watch reality TV as a guilty pleasure. I also work in TV and I wanted to show the way the audience is manipulated into believing a story on TV that may not be true at all. I also wanted to tell a romantic tale with realistic and funny characters.
Where did you get your idea for this story?
I was watching a reality TV show and thinking about how fake it was. I wondered what it would be like to have a real smart and funny woman as a contestant on a dating show, and how that would shake things up.
What would you tell aspiring writers out there?
Write what you’re passionate about and enjoy yourself. Maybe nobody will ever read it or maybe everyone will read it. You won’t know unless you try.
What is your favorite book?
The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz
Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate?
hot chocolate, always and with whipped cream.
Anything else that you would like to add?
“Women are smart and funny and full of wit and TV Reality shows usually show them as self absorbed, dumb and humourless. I wanted my book to show women like so many I know. I wanted to imagine a situation where the apple cart of reality TV was flipped over.
The book is available at Amazon.com and Amazon.ca in paperback or for Kindle.”
I want to thank Gary Pearson for allowing me to promote his book on my blog. I hope this post has inspired you to go out and read Slapshot of Love!
